I am allowed to work today !! Horray!!

Its a sad sad thing when your to do list is two pages long.. but I can take care of part of one thing here. I am possibly recieving some funding from the guys who put together bluej to create a web page for them specifically directed at ap teachers. As a part of that funding (if it goes through - this is not a definate) I will also be recieving a couple of hundred dollars for some student interns to do some work for me. This work will involve proofreading what I write (because lord knows I need it) as well as simple layout stuff in (probably) dreamweaver or web design tool of your choice, as well as some navigation bars, and possibly research for related links etc. If you are interested I will be accepting applications via EMAIL ONLY (please do not post your qualifications to the forums). I will have more details as to the money in about a week and at that time will also detail what exactly you will be doing for me. If you are under 18 I will need permission from your parents for you to work out of your house as well. Applications should include - a brief resume, and a cover letter detailing what type of experience you have with creating web pages. The criteria I am using to select the couple of people (probably two) will include experience, but will also include ability to work from home and time you have this summer (ie are you going away for a few weeks and will be unreachable). I may ask candidates to come for a brief interview @ fox lane depending on how many people are interested in this. I will post this on the forums as well.

Quiet Night

Relatively uneventful night at ems. Just pete and I on shift - Joanne stopped by for a little bit (::dances with her::) she got a good job in the area :) this is a GOOD thing :)

Anyway chinese food for dinner (yum)! and just a good night of relaxing - I drove to get dinner and managed to park the bus back into the bay with a minimum ammount of coaching :) Today was nice too - just bummed around mostly. I think tomorrow lifts my ban on no work for the week so here is my to do list for the next couple of days: (in no particular order) read through Kolling's book and make an outline for the supplements that kate wants me to do, start to document all the nifty things I saw in greece, begin to write up ap curriculum for next year (expect the remainder of the summer assignment to be posted soon), start to design first unit of ap for next year, completely demolish and rework education.sudol.com, frame out the beginnings of ap.bluej.org, see what materials I have and begin to do some research for links and stuff, and um.. yeah that should keep me busy for a couple of days..

::pokes will through you:: can I borrow 3rd + harry potter books? wont take me long to read - I promise.. ;)

Concert in the park

The concert in the park was amazing. The music - and the way that so many musicians can sound almost like one.. I was so glad we went and got the good seats we did. It makes for quite an evening to have the lights of the city come up behind you as you listen to truly beautiful music.

I always love the NYC skyline.

DV Expo

Went to DV Expo today at the javits center.. piddly.. not too much stuff or even cool stuff to look at. Some interesting things - but almost wasnt worth the train ticket. Thank you for hanging out with me though. Mac world is going to be soo much better.

Concert tomorrow!! I cant wait! and the house is almost clean.. almost. ::sigh:: this was supposed to be my week off.

Wednesday

Yea!! its wednesday and I have managed to distract myself enought that I have not done any work yet this week! :) Half way there! Cleaning this morning (yes - apparently it takes FOREVER to finally get back onto the current time zone - although I woke up this morning at 6:30 instead of 5:30.. ugh) then DV expo and then concert tomorrow!! I am so excited.

EMS meeting last night. Picking up shifts on mondays and wednesdays from noon to 6 - plus friday noon to 6 in addition to 6 to midnight. :) Building is airconditioned and I can do work in the office there once my self enforced vacation is over. They expelled someone from the corps last night (which opens a friday night slot for you if you want to be on the schedule on the official crew. I have some serious problems with the way the expulsion was handled. Granted in the individual circomstance it seems somewhat appropriate - but as a board member I feel that it was not handled completely correctly. This person was never repremanded with more than a verbal warning from the officers. And then he really screws up and is expelled. I think our officer corps needs to get a little freer with suspensions first. The person in question basically is overenthusiastic and pisses the hell out of everyone because of it. But nobody ever suspended him. I think this sets a bad precident that they can kick people out without having a sequence of consequences.. ::sigh:: Will continue this discussion at some point with other board members. We started it last night but got sidetracked...

Anyway off to clean. If you are planning on coming to the concert tomorrow let me know so I know who I have to meet where. And if you are coming down later let me know so I can make sure I save enough space.

of mondays

yes, the time stamp on this is correct. Still slightly on greece time and that is making me crash a little earlier at night and get up a little earlier in the morning. Taking naps over the next few days should help allieviate this. (haha to the grammar ninjas who cannot post a comment here to correct my horrific spelling like they did for you) Today promises to be a day. housecleaning/various stuff in the morning then gym for pilates - time to get back into summer workout routine - its baithing suit season. then to pick up dog from kennel and overnight at ems later. (so I probably will be up late)

Also have to dig out my library card at some point. I have decided that the best way to keep myself from working for a week (kinda a forced vacation) is to read almost everything on my reading wish list. That should take a couple of days (there are about 10-15 books there) so starting like wed. or thurs. I will be taking suggestions. I do have to do a little work over the next couple of days though to finish up the grant. Going to really start next week though - just some light research should be good for a few hours a day. (will fit right in with the reading theme :p ) (you knew I wasnt going to do NO work this week.. right?)

Anyway off to start the day - tty all later..

Finally Made it home

ok, after wednesday the conference was over so I need to catch you up on a couple of days of greece before I start ranting about the trip home..

thursday
ok - thursday is scheduled for beach day :) We decided that we have heard sooo much about greek beaches that we were going to find one and I wanted to work on a few tan lines. It was amazing!! The sand was beautiful, the water was crystal blue and cool, but not cold - every half hour or so I would go in the water for about 15 - 20 minutes just to float around. It was an adventure finding the beach though - we drove around the greek country side (I have some pictures) for about 2-3 hours to find a beach that is really only an hour out of the city. :) Then shopped a little - found a cute pair of sandals...

friday
Designated shopping day (like I hadnt done enough already) but first we went out to a local winery and did a tasting. Brought back 6 bottles of wine and some ouzo for friends and to add to wine cellar. Back to the city - lunch at an amazing restaurant. Did I say the food here was wonderful? had some chicken that was wrapped around something (tasted like really good, thin ham) and then covered in this amazing feta cheese sauce. ::sigh:: will be paying for this week for a long time at the gym. and you are going to be happy - I soo need to do some climbing to help work this off - friday morning? I am sure I can pursuade petey to play w/ ropes.. If we get serious about this we should see if we can take some ropes courses at the fire training center.. that would be fun..

but I digress.. Dinner @ a cafe (amazing tomatoe, cucumber and feta salad..) I am going to miss the fresh tomatoes here.. Going to definately start eating more when I get home.. then last minute shopping and packing and ..

trip home

How odd is it to leave greece, travel for about 12 hours and get home only 6 hours after you left?? crashed so hard last night, but unfortunately woke up early this morning (8am here is like 2 in the afternoon..ugh) And rich is on a rampage since his mom is coming thurs and the house is an absolute mess. ah well...
