Who does this remind you of?
"During the first nights after he learned to write a computer program, Alsing would go off from the computer room and search the empty building, looking for a classroom with a blackboard and some chalk. He posed problems for himself and on the blackboard wrote up programs for their automatic solution. Then he hurried back to the computer to try out his programs on the machine. That was what made it fun; he could actually touch the machine and make it obey him. 'I'd run a little program and when it worked, I'd get a little high, and then I'd do another. It was neat. I loved writing programs. I could control the machine. I could make it express my own thoughts. It wa an expansion of the mind to have a computer'"
-The Soul of a New Machine, Tracy Kidder
All coders I think experience this to some extent :p

Mornings suck
Morning sucks when everyone in the world is not on the same time schedule you are. First of all our 3rd lt. at EMS decides to run pager tests.. (beep beep beep every couple of seconds), and also Rich calls from his errands to "just say hello"...
I cant win. Its not sleeping late people if you didnt get a full 8 hours !!!!!
And I am convinced my neck problems are stress related.

Fire
So I was at the library (checked out 3 books too - going to dig into them later) and the fire alarm goes off. (not the library's but the siren on top the fire house). This is nothing to me - normally this is just false alarms. So I go to walk home and there are clouds of smoke coming out of a building on the avenue. Turns out MONSTER fire. Four alarm to be exact - so I spent most of the afternoon walking around taking pictures of the burning building and the men trying to save it. I smell like burnt wood. Not the icky cigarette smoky kind of smell, but good fire (like on a cold winter day if you sit in front of a fireplace) kind of smell.
::sigh:: need a shower before hanging out with brigid tonight. We are making Jello for the picnic tomorrow.

Math is best done on napkins
Want to know one reason y I love hanging out with certain friends? Random rotational solid proofs done on napkins at restaurants. :) I so need now to find my abstract algebra text from college and whip out some isomorphisms and group proofs.. :) non euclidean geometry was just as fun.. Omega Triangles are a really cool thing :)
Still need to decide on the rest of what I am going to get Rich for our anniversary though. Got some stuff tonight - will be doing another shopping trip soon to finish off the gifting.
Anyway - have to focus tomorrow and should finish off grant work - even though I want to curl up with good book.

of stuff
::dances:: hopefully a visitor will be coming next week - will make for a fun ems shift. :)
Also sent emails to the two people who offered me other projects for the summer. I need to know if I should start them, because once school starts (as usual) I am going to be a little swamped.. So hopefully those of you awaiting the same thing I am - we should hear soon.
I think I am actually going to go to bed soon (::gasp::) just not feeling motivated to work tonight, so much is done, and nothing new is arising yet.. Although I could put together materials for programming camp..

Finished two books today.. Thank you will for loaning them to me..
Also for you you should start reading megatokyo you would like it.. read the archives or you will not understand the story..

Also, I am going to delegate people bringing something small each (soda, chips, etc.) just because I am poor. Im me if you are coming and I will give you directions to lake house - its really really easy.

Of random adventures and quiet days
ok first of all I am convinced that you did inherit jon's curse. You should start carrying quarters again..
secondly.. we have decided that there are 4 parts to scarsdale, and of course borders is in the last place we would look. But random adventures are definately fun - and I ended up with two books (and a variety of stories to put away)
and ::waves:: @ brad - you need to start one of these so I can link your name (like above) rather than spell it out. Also got your birthday (i know its late) gift, but you realize that this is going to take a significant ammount of willpower not to open it before you come to visit :p

dr.s can be good
Neck feels so much better. Still a little tender from being sore for a week, but hopefully that will fade. At least now I can function without having to take painkillers. :)

10 more hours until dr. appointment
EMS won its first softball game of the season tonight (mainly because the other team didnt show up - but it still goes down in the books as a win for us). No, I wasnt going to play with my neck the way it is, but I just went to watch.
Went to a bridal shower today and had a long talk with Michelle. Some of the same issues I am having she is going through as well. its nice to know that its not just me. I just feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place sometimes. I am not going to rant about this here - anyone who really wants to know - just ask me.
I am almost done with the grant materials, and got an email from one of the guys from the IDE that might be hiring me and some "student interns" to do a project for them. Very positive - hopefully moving one step closer to getting this finalized.
School is starting again in just a few short weeks. Lots to do - almost no time to do it in.. (I feel like its school already!) but hopefully this year will be as good (if not better than last). For those of you coming (or planning to come) to the barbeque on the 14th - directions to follow shortly and I NEED TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE!! I need somehow to get food for all. Also please note that this will be a substance free day for a variety of reasons. if anyone can help w/ food stuff arrangements please email me (or im me)!
Anyway - enough for tonight.
