Counting Crows
AWESOME CONCERT! I seriously recommend that if you ever get the chance you go and see counting crows live. There is an energy that they pour into their music that becomes soo apparent when you see them live. They did about half the concert unplugged which was amazing. The lead singer spent at least 3 songs at the grand piano on the stage. Absolutely amazing. Just awesome to sit back and listen to that music. John Mayer was great too, the same kind of energy in his singing :)
The of course a ride home in the convertable.. great evening. Got the new crows cd.. :)

Infinity
Done with the primary part of the book, going to read some of the excursions today, but just thought I would blog a few thoughts. One of the really cool paradoxes that arise out of the book is the concept of One/Many or Many/One.. Do we exist in a singular large item (universe) that is made up of many smaller things? (this may sound correct at first.. but) Or do we exist as a part of Many things but we use our own personal influence and knowledge to classify them into one? Hurts just a little to think about it too long.. Although its kinda like a particular mathematical series..
1 - 1 + 1 - 1 + 1 - 1 + 1....
Does this series (when continued forever) equal to 0 or 1? If you group the terms this way.. (1 - 1) + (1 - 1).. and continue that pattern you end up with 0. However if you group the terms 1 + (-1 + 1) + (-1 + 1)... you end up with the series converging to 1..
The same is true about the infitesimaly small. We are so sure that everything can be reduced down to a single particle (possibly with different types) that we can then point to and say "Look - that is the one thing that everything else is made of" but we keep managing to break these particles into smaller and smaller peices. So are there many things built out of this one particle? or are we one larger thing built out of many smaller particles?
Just thought I would leave you with something to ponder.

love math
spent most of the day at FL - set up image (finally done I think) for the computer lab, then cleaned desk in math office - made case study packets and spent some time figuring out what a charmed quark was..
yes.. I do physics for fun too..

Watch out
Have been reading infinity and the mind by Rudy Rucker.. loving the quark discussions, probabalistic infitesimals, cardinality discussions and various other mathematics and set theory.. Expect this to creep into my discussions/conversations for a while as you found out...
For example:
3 = {{},{{}},{{},{{}}}}
hehe..
I love being a math geek!

Cleaning
Taking the teacher desk out of g10 to put in another table - think that it will be more effective that way. also think I finished setting up the model for the computer - still having user errors with the permissions for visual studio.net, but hopefully that will be worked out - theres still the older version of VB installed for CS1 to start with.
Also need to clean my desk in the math office.. yikes - when they shifted the office around they basically piled things on it.. bleh..
I should probably take curses home tonight and mend him as well. Might have to just bring in an emergency sewing kit to keep w/ the stuffed animals.. Going to take down some of the posters around the room.. any suggestions for the windows to the hallway? (and facing inside) *poke* perhaps the robotics club could post and advertisement for members.. I smell an officer meeting coming on..
I think I am going to post advertisements for the programming team as well..(at least facing in on some of the windows)and then my walls are sooo bare - need to add some colorful stuff.. hmm.. I smell ap extra credit for object diagrams from the case study..
or I just need to find someone with a poster size printer and can print the ones from the book.
Anyway - back to nest*cough* cleaning.. :p

Responded to possible stroke victim
72 year old female with slurred speech and facial droop, however did not exibit any other signs of stroke. Upon history was determined that patient was diabetic and had not eaten lunch. Medic took blood sugar - 48, and promptly started saline lock to administer 1amp of dextrose. Patient transported w/o incident.
The cool thing about this was that about 1 minute after the dextrose was pushed (huge needle by the way) all of the stroke like symptoms had dissapeared and the patient was returning to normal status. By the time she got to the hospital there was no longer a facial droop or any slurring of her speech.

better
Feeling better about end of summer.. still going to miss some good friends, but really starting to gear up to go back to school. Its going to be a good year. I need to organize myself early on.. two math 4 classes are going to be fun if they arent too big.
I am starting to hear from all of you who went off to school - thank you for saying hello - it means a lot to me that you still talk to me and.. I WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU ARE DOING! If you have a blog and you update it.. unlike some :p .. please let me know the address, I am collecting them. I still check zib on a regular basis - but some of you have not been updating - I understand, orientation, new friends.. just every now and then check in.. :)
ok, off to finish some cleaning and make lunch and then I think I am going to do some reading and make my to do list for the next week. If anyone is still around I am going to be at FL for most of the day tues.. let me know if you want to have lunch :)
