Adventures in teaching

So they moved my math classes from G4 (which was slightly chalkboard challanged for a math room, but not too bad) to F2 which is definately chalk board challanged. For starters, if you are going to put in a chalk board for midgets, why would it be up so high? wouldnt the shortened board so that vertically challanged people could reach the top require that the board be initially placed lower? (not that I cant reach, but just wondering why else you would have 1/2 a board)

Secondly, there is a very large map-type thing hanging down the center of the board taking up about 3/4 of the space that is there. Not that I argue that the map shouldnt be there, I am after all interloping into a social studies room, but wouldnt it be nice if the map covered, say, part of the EMPTY WALL rather than the chalkboard? ::sigh::

I dont mind the semi-circles of desks, actually makes it easier for me to teach math 4 (I wander almost as much as I do in compsci), I just might have to add "avenues" where I can get past the interior row of desks to the outer circle.

I am also in there 7th period.. so if anyone in AP wants to get into G10 and not have to stand in the hall, just wander by F2 and grab my key from me. It normally takes a few minutes for me to gather the calculators and any other papers/etc. from class - come and get the key so you guys can get in without having to wait for me.

Onward and upward.. (now off to deal with .net and fun fun error messages)

random silliness

ok so yes your picture of me back at school laughing hysterically is accurate...

But here is something funny that came out of random conversations during go games this afternoon - what if the elves from lord of the rings all had country bumpkin accents? Would that lead to Elrond becoming Elrond-bob? there are soo many ways this could be funny..

Welcome back

I can see that wednesdays 4th period might be a problem.. I understand today guys you were all catching up, however if I am teaching you really need to wait until I am done before decending upon the classroom. And I just might put you to work while you are there.

School is going good, I can tell this is going to be a good year. Lets just see how my busy afternoon goes. I think lunch 6A is going to work out because I can bring my food down at the beginning of the period, as long as I remember everything I need for the rest of the day. You can probably expect me to be running back to the math office every now and then for things I forget. I probably should just bring everything down in the morning to make sure I have it.. hmm.. not a bad idea.. ::makes little mental note::

Kinda cool to be back :)

I have caught up on some of the stuff for the next week anyway. unfortunately that required me to stay at school today until 6:30pm.. ::sigh:: not a good portent for the year..

But.. mmm.. chinese food for dinner :) (treated myself to some comfort food)

Skipping in the rain

As I walked to get lunch today I found myself skipping(well not skipping exactly) in the rain. (almost akin to hopping rocks, but the sidewalk concrete slabs are too big and not intricately enough entwined) I walked to the deli in the rain (yes w/o an umbrella) and kinda hopped/took a little jump over a puddle to not soak my feet and pants. that just lead to me kinda hopping around the puddles in front of me. I love rain in the fall.

EEEEKK!

Ok, school starts again for teachers tomorrow and I had trouble crawling out of bed at 9:30 today.. bleh. I think I am just about set for school. Going to have to make up my "basket". I didnt carry it much last year because I didnt have things back to back, but this year my schedule just sux. I might not be able to have the lab open for lunch this year. It depends on how much I am able to bring lunches that dont require heating. besides I might need a break between my afternoon stuff.. I have class 6, 7, and 8 so last year when I had 7th off that became my lunch time. Not sure.. will have to see how things go after the first week of school.

It was COLD yesterday at the lake, but got to see Kathy. She has grown up soo much, and is such a great mom.. for those of you who dont know this story, Kathy and I were really good friends in high school - I even lived (yes lived seriously - I moved in there) in her house during the summers. She is a year younger than me and now has two kids, a girl (Harley Rose) and a boy (Cody James). She was definately a wild child when I knew her best, but now has matured and .. well.. its soo odd to see her as mother of two. But it was good to see her again. I have to go up and visit her and go riding. (She and her husband run the barn at a dude ranch) I havent been horseback riding in so long. Was always a great way to unwind, the two of us used to just take off into the woods on random days.. :p I guess its an odd mix between a road trip and a hike.

Well I have some work to do today.. will be on and around..

Good Friends and Irish Music

Brigid and Marlin came over tonight for dinner. Barbeque, Irish music and monopoly - what a night! Definately a good time. Going up to the lake tomorrow to see mom, kathy and the baby. Hopefully will be working on sprucing up my tan before going back to school as well.

Its nice and cool out tonight - hopefully some of this summer heat has broken. Its been an amazing summer from the AP Reading, to Greece to being "super member" at EMS and finding some great friends (who I hope stay that way), and I could go on and on.. I hope the year that follows is just as good!

Time for bed I think.. Night All
